If you are a beginner, the best item to learn first is the granny square. This simple pattern is used to make blankets, potholders, scarves, hats and many other things.
To start making the granny square you will need to know a few crochet terms before jumping right into it. First, make sure you have the correct size hook for your project. If you use tiny yarn with a tiny hook, your project will turn out tiny. Same idea for medium and large yarn and hooks. Right now it is a good idea for you to use a G hook which is also called a 4mm hook.
